Hanaa Nejjar, ACM Circle Larache member and president of the Association “Les femmes des deux rives”, intervined as one of the representatives of 24 civil society organizations from different countries around the world that convened in Geneva, Switzerland, between 26-28 February 2018, on the sidelines of the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council, to establish the International Alliance for Peace and Development. The signatory parties of this statement officially declare that the International Alliance for Peace and Development. This historic document declares that first of all “the International Alliance for Peace and Development vision is “a world without violence, hatred or extremism, and effective international partnership for peace and sustainable development”, through working closely with the UN mechanisms, as well as local, regional and international actors, in a framework of networking work, based on coordinating efforts, integration, and cooperation among the Alliance members”.

Document of Establishment The International Alliance for Peace and Development

Geneva, 28 February 2018

In the time the world suffers from the scourge of war, violence and extremism, civil society organizations came together, as one of the manifestations of the UN and people’s soft power, to undertake an effective role in the service of peace and development issues, they united their efforts and visions in a common agenda based on the universal human values, principles of coexistence, and university of human rights. In this context, the representatives of 24 civil society organizations from different countries around the world convened in Geneva, Switzerland, between 26-28 February 2018, on the sidelines of the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council, to establish the International Alliance for Peace and Development.

The signatory parties of this statement officially declare that the International Alliance for Peace and Development, was officially established in Geneva on the 28th of February 2018, and the signatory parties confirm the following:

1. The International Alliance for Peace and Development vision is “a world without violence, hatred or extremism, and effective international partnership for peace and sustainable development”, through working closely with the UN mechanisms, as well as local, regional and international actors, in a framework of networking work, based on coordinating efforts, integration, and cooperation among the Alliance members.

2. MAAT for Peace, Development and Human Rights (Egypt) was authorized to lead the International Alliance for Peace and Development till the adoption of the statute and convening of the general assembly for the election of managing bodies for the Alliance.

3. Based on the submitted proposals during the constituent meeting on the statute, a committee has been formed to write a statute draft to be disseminated to the members for revision and comments, for the statute to be adopted in its final version within two months of the declaration of the Alliance.

4. The signatory parties, taking into consideration their leadership positions in their own countries, will promote the Alliance’s vision and message, along with introducing its objectives, via the implementation of at least one activity per year for each organization.

5. The International Alliance for Peace and Development will organize an annual international forum entitled “Unite for Peace”.

6. The Alliance will adopt a specific communication strategy linked to the Alliance’s priorities and issues of concern.
