We demand new social, economic and educational policies as well as creating the necessary conditions for all people, and in particular youth, to find their place in dignity. We also call for the adoption of the necessary laws and their application, for the recognition of the women rights.

On 7 and 8 July the MCAF Advisory Board met in Paris at the headquarters of the Charles Leopold Meyer Foundation (FPH). The meeting began with the words of Matthieu Calame, director of the FPH, who carried out an analysis of the geopolitical importance of the Mediterranean region nowadays and encouraged Council members to continue their work. The Council thanked him for his hospitality and continued support for the activities of the MCAF.

The Council expresses its deep concern about the conflicts in the region and the escalating humanitarian crises. Thousands of people killed for wanting to cross the sea or the desert are a flagrant evidence of the failure of policies pursued by the states operating in the region. In an increasingly multilateral world, we call on the European Union to make a particular effort to provide a humane and democratic solution to migratory flows and refugee crises caused by conflicts, inequalities and the effects of climate change. The Council underlines its deep concern at the growing tensions in the Middle East, the Gulf region and the Riff.

We demand new social, economic and educational policies as well as creating the necessary conditions for all people, and in particular youth, to find their place in dignity. We also call for the adoption of the necessary laws and their application, for the recognition of the women rights.

The peace and progress of the Mediterranean peoples must be the aim of the policies of governmental and international institutions.

The Council welcomes the recent constitution of the citizens’ circle of Larache (Morocco) and of Menton (France), as well as the upcoming formation of the Ramallah (Palestine) and Algiers (Algeria). Currently the MCA network already has twenty-six citizen circles in twenty countries in the Mediterranean region.

The Council is preparing the VII MCA meeting to be held in Casablanca (Morocco) in November 2017 under the title “Conditions and tools of citizen action for peace and progress in the Mediterranean”. This meeting, which will be attended by all the MCA circles will allow to address the great challenges in relation to Mediterranean citizenship and the integration of the region.

We call on the citizens to continue their struggles for freedom, equality and solidarity, indispensable conditions for the construction of a region in peace and development.
