A Round Table discussion took place today in Ljubljana, where high-level speakers discussed how Slovenia could capitalize on its Mediterranean identity and position itself in the region so as to enhance its political and economic development. The gap between Slovenia’s actual and perceived belongingness to the Mediterranean region was discussed as well as how Slovenia, and other countries from the Mediterranean, could benefit from a clearer strategy and a concrete approach to addressing common concerns and challenges towards peace, security and stability in the región.

Welcome addresses were delivered by Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid El-Zoheiry, President of the Euro-Mediterranean University and Iztok Mirošič, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. Panellists included H.E. Fathallah Sijilmassi, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Tanja Fajon, Member of the European Parliament, Lola Bañon Castellón, Director of Mediterranean Citizens’ Assembly Foundation (ACM), Prof. Fabio Finotti, University of Trieste and Ali Sayed Ali, co-founder of Frame.life and the Euro-Mediterranean Photo Marathon. The event was moderated by Mimi Podkrižnik from DELO newspaper and co-organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.
